Monte Vista Elementary School

Monte Vista opened in 1963 in Eastern Vista, and will celebrate its 50th anniversary this fall.  The mission of educators there is to ensure student success as collaborative, responsible members of society by inspiring them to reach their full intellectual, physical, and emotional potential. The school was named a California Distinguished school in 2010.

Active parent volunteers inside and outside of the classroom help create even more opportunities to learn. The PTA pays for weekly art and music classes for all students. Families at Monte Vista participate in many family-themed events such as Fall Festival, site-beautification days, family literacy nights, Read Across Monte Vista, and other education nights.

The school has about 650 students in preschool through fifth grade and 33 teachers. All students, employees and visitors are encouraged to use “please” and “thank you” on a daily basis, which promotes responsibility and more advances social skills, Charlene Manuto said. “Our students are kind, motivated, and enjoy learning,” she said.
