Frequently Asked Questions regarding VUSD's Boundary Adjustment Committee

Question:  How does Vista Unified School District formulate how many students may be entering Vista schools as a result of these new developments?

Answer:  The District's student generation rate is .7 students from every dwelling unit.  Therefore if there are 400 dwelling units Vista Unified calculates that 280 students (grades K-12) will be expected to attend our schools.

Question:  What is the total student elementary school population now, and what does Vista Unified School District envision it to be in coming years?

Answer: Vista Unified currently has 10,200 elementary students and could possibly increase 2% over the next several years.

Question:  Which schools have been identified as ones available to grow?

Answer: Vista Unified is currently working with our demographers and gathering that information for the Elementary Boundary Adjustment Committee.

Question:  Who sits on Vista Unified School District’s Elementary Boundary Adjustment Committee?

Answer: The committee is comprised of parents, site administrators, teacher representatives, classified representatives and district administration staff.

Question:  When will work be completed to redraw the Vista Unified School District’s elementary school boundaries?

Answer: The draft recommendations will be presented to the Vista Unified’s School Board in February and the final recommendations will be presented in March 2015. Implementation of any new boundaries will be effective for the 2015-16 school year.

Question:  Do the boundaries for middle schools and high schools need to be readjusted for the change in elementary school boundaries?

Answer:  No, the boundaries for the middle and high schools will not need to be re-adjusted at this time.  Middle school boundaries were adjusted for this year when Washington Middle School was converted to a magnet school called Vista Innovation & Design Academy.
